The result is a contemporary lexicon that is internally inconsistent across sources but broadly converges on the meanings we describe below. We have written each definition by triangulating across the sources cited, with attention to which interpretations are most stable across the field.

On synchronicity and selective attention

Before we turn to the individual numbers, one methodological note. There are two well-developed accounts of why repeating numbers feel meaningful.

The first is Carl Jung’s concept of synchronicity, developed primarily in his 1952 essay “Synchronicity: An Acausal Connecting Principle.”⁵Synchronicity, in Jung’s account, is a meaningful coincidence — an alignment between an inner state and an outer event that resists explanation through ordinary cause and effect, but that points to a deeper psychic reality. Read forward, in the moment, the temptation to read every alignment as decisive is too strong, and the frame collapses into superstition.
